We would like to request improvement to the area of behind the ear, where the ear and the head meet. Accurate data here will help us provide better fitting products to our clients

The 270 scan, provided that the head turns enough to each side (-90/+ 90 degrees), can give you a pretty good ear scan and you can see that in this example.

However, the scan won't capture the concave shape behind the ear because our scan is a "cylindrical scan".

It seems like the Bellus3D scanner is very high resolution for the shape and texture, what is the reason it cannot correctly read behind the ear geometry? What is a cylindrical scan? Its super important that we get the geometry behind the ears so our eyeglasses can be fit correctly, otherwise we are just guessing.

The camera has to see what's behind your ears, which is difficult if you simply turn your head side to side. You will need to turn in 360 degrees and long hair is a problem too. The projection method we use doesn't work well with concave shapes like behind the ears. There is no easy solution right now if accurate behind the ear geometry is what you need.

    Eric,

Our use case is always assisted by a professional optician. When the optician guides the patient, helps make sure the hair is tied back and the sensor has direct line of sight behind the ear, and the rotation is guided in speed and amount. Whether the device is held by the optician or mounted on a stand, we can ensure a clear shot at the area. Can you do anything to help us resolve this area? We could try to tape the ears forward temporarily, or use a smartphone camera to snap pictures behind the ears to get the data, but it’s not ideal. I’ve heard rumours that bellus captures a series of still shots during scan, if true, could a pair of these stills be selectively exported to help us here?

@Dennis, we will consider it as a feature request but there is no short term solution right now. I think taking some extra snapshots behind the ear is probably a workaround for now.
